Moisture-Resistant Drywall
Moisture resistant drywall uses a treated core and moisture resistant facing to handle elevated humidity better than standard board. It suits bathrooms, laundry rooms, and kitchens, but it is not designed for direct water contact and should not be used behind tile in a shower.

About Moisture-Resistant Drywall
Moisture resistant board, still widely called green board from its traditional facing colour, handles ambient humidity far better than standard gypsum. It belongs on bathroom walls and ceilings, in laundry rooms, and around kitchens.
What it is not is waterproof. This distinction causes a great deal of expensive damage. Moisture resistant board installed as tile backer inside a shower will eventually fail, because it is designed to resist humidity in the air rather than water running down it. Wet areas need cement board or another purpose made tile backer. We specify the right material for each zone rather than using one board everywhere.

Why this matters
- Correct board for humid environments
- Clear separation between humid zones and genuinely wet zones
- Mold resistant options where humidity is persistent
- Correct fastener and joint treatment for the environment
How we work
Our Process
How a moisture-resistant drywall project runs from first contact through final walkthrough.
Step 1: Define the Performance Target
Moisture, fire, sound, and impact are four different problems. We establish which one you are actually solving before specifying anything.
Step 2: Specify the Assembly
Performance comes from the complete assembly, not the board alone. We specify board, framing, insulation, fasteners, and sealing together.
Step 3: Written Scope
The estimate names the specific board type and assembly details, so what you are buying is unambiguous.
Step 4: Build to the Detail
Specialty assemblies only perform when built exactly as listed. We follow the detail rather than approximating it.
Step 5: Verify and Document
Assembly checked before close in, documented where an inspection or rating depends on it, then finished and cleaned.
Scope
What's Included
Written into every estimate so there is no ambiguity about what you are paying for.
- Zone assessment separating humid from wet areas
- Moisture resistant board in humid zones
- Cement board or tile backer specified for wet zones
- Corrosion resistant fasteners
- Mold resistant compound where appropriate
- Sealing at floor and penetrations
