Building code and rated assemblies
Drywall work is subject to California building code, and rated assemblies carry additional requirements that are specific to the tested assembly rather than to the board alone.
We build rated assemblies to their listed details covering board type and thickness, layering, stud gauge and spacing, fastener type and spacing, joint treatment, insulation, and firestopping at penetrations. Deviating from any of those invalidates the rating.
Asbestos awareness
Sprayed acoustic ceiling texture applied before the early 1980s may contain asbestos, which covers a substantial share of Orange County housing stock.
We do not perform asbestos abatement and we are not licensed to. Where a property is of that age and popcorn ceiling removal is proposed, we advise laboratory testing before any material is disturbed. If it tests positive, the work becomes licensed abatement and we refer you rather than proceeding.
Mold
We are a drywall contractor, not a remediation firm. Where we encounter mold growth beyond a small surface area, we stop, document it, and recommend a licensed remediation contractor before we install new board.
Closing a wall over an unresolved mold problem creates liability for everyone and helps nobody.
Scope boundaries
Being clear about what we do not do is as useful as describing what we do.
- We do not paint. We deliver a verified paint ready surface.
- We do not perform asbestos abatement.
- We do not perform mold remediation.
- We do not perform water extraction or structural drying.
- We do not perform electrical or plumbing work, though we coordinate around both.
- We do not provide structural engineering assessments.
