Drywall Repair in Irvine and Orange County

Drywall repair restores damaged wall and ceiling surfaces by removing the failed material, reinforcing or replacing the substrate, and refinishing the area so it blends into the surrounding surface. A repair is only finished when the texture matches and the patch is invisible under normal room light.

About Drywall Repair

Most drywall repairs fail for the same reason: the person doing them treats the damage as the problem. It usually is not. The hole, the crack, or the stain is a symptom, and if you fill the symptom without addressing what caused it, the repair comes back.

A settling crack that gets filled with compound and painted will reopen in the same line within a year, because nothing was done to reinforce the joint. Water stained board that gets primed and painted will keep telegraphing, because the board itself is compromised. A nail pop that gets refilled without resetting or replacing the fastener will pop again.

We diagnose before we repair. Then we do the repair in a way that addresses the cause, and we finish it so the texture matches the wall around it. That last step is where most repairs are obviously repairs. Getting a knockdown or orange peel match right takes sampling and adjustment, not a can of spray texture from a hardware store.

Drywall Repair services

9 specific services within this category. Each has its own page covering process, materials, and the questions we get asked about it.

Why this matters

  • Cause diagnosed before the repair, so it does not come back
  • Proper reinforcement at cracks rather than surface filling
  • Compromised board replaced rather than painted over
  • Texture sampled and matched so the patch disappears
  • Containment and dust control in occupied homes
  • Honest assessment when replacement beats repair

How we work

Our Process

Every project runs through the same five stages, so you always know what happens next.

  1. Step 1: Diagnose the Cause

We identify why the damage happened. Moisture, movement, impact, or fastener failure each call for a different repair.

  2. Step 2: Written Scope

A clear estimate covering the repair area, the method, whether texture matching is included, and the schedule.

  3. Step 3: Protect and Prepare

The area is protected and contained, then failed material is cut back to sound substrate.

  4. Step 4: Repair and Reinforce

New material set flush, joints reinforced, and compound built in thin coats with full dry time.

  5. Step 5: Match and Finish

Texture matched to the surrounding wall, sanded with dust control, cleaned, and walked with you.

Answers

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does drywall repair cost?
It depends on the size of the damage, how many separate locations there are, whether texture matching is needed, and how accessible the area is. A single small patch is a very different job from six patches in four rooms with a knockdown texture to match. We give a written price after seeing the work rather than a number over the phone that changes on arrival.
How long does a drywall repair take?
Small patches are often one visit. Anything requiring multiple compound coats needs drying time between them, which usually means two or three visits over several days. Compound that is rushed shrinks and cracks, so we schedule around dry time rather than through it.
Will the repair be visible?
A properly executed repair should be invisible under normal room lighting once painted. Under strong raking light, a repair on a smooth wall can still show unless the whole wall is skim coated. We will tell you which situation you are in before we start.
Do you paint after the repair?
We leave the surface genuinely paint ready and texture matched. Painting itself is a separate trade. Where painting is needed we will tell you what the surface requires so your painter is set up to succeed.
My cracks keep coming back. Why?
Because they were filled rather than reinforced. A crack caused by structural movement will reopen through any amount of compound. The fix is to cut it out, reinforce it with tape across the joint, and rebuild the surface. Where movement is ongoing, a control joint may be the correct answer instead.
