Why we will not quote over the phone
Because a number given without seeing the work is a guess, and guesses get revised upward on arrival. That is the mechanism behind most pricing complaints in this trade.
What determines the price can only be assessed on site: the real extent of the damage, the existing texture, the wall thickness, the access, and what the finished surface has to match.

What a written scope actually contains
Enough detail that you can compare it against another quote on equal terms, and enough that neither of us can be surprised later.
- The area and rooms covered
- The finish level, stated explicitly by area
- Whether texture matching is included
- Materials and any specialty board specified
- Protection and containment included
- Cleanup and debris removal included
- A realistic schedule that accounts for compound drying time
- What is specifically excluded, so there is no ambiguity
How long things actually take
Drying time rather than labour sets drywall schedules. Each compound coat needs to dry fully before the next, usually overnight and longer in humid conditions.
| Job | Typical duration |
|---|---|
| Small patch, no texture match | 1 to 2 days |
| Patch with texture matching | 2 to 3 days |
| Single room installation | 3 to 5 days |
| Single room with Level 5 finish | 5 to 7 days |
| Popcorn removal and retexture, one room | 3 to 5 days |
| Whole house installation | 1 to 3 weeks |
What happens if something is not right
Tell us at the walkthrough. That is what the walkthrough is for, and it is much cheaper for everyone to fix something before the painter arrives than after.
If something on our work does not meet the standard we described, we come back and correct it.
