Skim Coating in Irvine and Orange County
Skim coating applies a thin layer of joint compound across an entire surface to create a smooth, uniform plane. It is used to achieve a Level 5 finish, to remove existing texture, and to resurface walls that have accumulated too much damage to patch individually.

About Skim Coating
Skim coating solves a problem patching cannot. Once a wall has accumulated enough repairs, enough texture variation, or enough general unevenness, fixing individual spots produces a patchwork that reads worse than the original. Skimming resets the entire surface to one uniform plane.
It has three main applications. It is how a Level 5 finish is achieved on new work. It is how existing texture is removed to create a smooth modern wall. And it is how a tired wall in an older home is brought back to a surface worth painting.
The technique is deceptively demanding. The compound goes on thin and gets worked flat, which means the applicator is controlling thickness by feel across a large area. Too thick and it takes forever to dry and shrinks unevenly. Too thin and the surface underneath telegraphs through. Doing it well across a whole room is a genuine skill.
It is also the honest answer when someone asks us to make old walls look new. Very often the answer is not more patching. It is skimming.
