Why dust matters more than people expect
Gypsum dust is extremely fine, so it stays airborne far longer than most construction dust and travels through an entire building rather than settling near where it was created.
It gets into HVAC systems and is then redistributed every time the system runs. It settles into fabrics, electronics, and every horizontal surface. And it is a respiratory irritant, which matters if anyone in the household has sensitivity.

The five minute step most contractors skip
Sealing the HVAC supply vents and returns in the work area. An open return will pull fine gypsum dust straight into the ductwork, where it is distributed through the entire building every time the system runs.
It takes about five minutes and it is one of the highest value tasks on any drywall job.
Being honest about what dustless means
Dustless sanding captures the large majority of dust at the point of creation. It does not capture all of it, and anyone promising literally zero dust is overselling.
The honest description is that with containment plus HEPA extraction, you clean one room afterward instead of your whole house. That is a genuine difference and it is not the same as none.
Safety on site
Proper staging or lifts for work at height rather than improvised access. Materials stored so walkways stay clear. Tools and cords managed so nothing becomes a trip hazard, particularly in occupied buildings where residents and staff are moving through.
In senior living, healthcare, and educational settings this matters more than anywhere, and we plan the work around occupant movement rather than expecting occupants to plan around us.
