Final Surface Preparation
Final surface preparation is the last pass before painting begins. It covers a raking light inspection, correction of any remaining defect, final fine sanding where needed, and complete dust removal from surfaces and the site.

About Final Surface Preparation
This is the pass that determines whether your painter starts smoothly or stops to complain. It is short, it is cheap relative to everything before it, and it is the one most likely to be skipped when a schedule is tight.
The method is simple: a bright light held nearly parallel to the surface, moved across every wall and ceiling. Anything that casts a shadow gets marked and corrected. Then everything gets dusted properly, including the floor, so nothing gets kicked back up onto a wet primer coat.

Why this matters
- Defects found before the painter finds them
- Raking light inspection across every surface
- Complete dust removal including floors
- Clean handoff without a dispute between trades

How we work
Our Process
How a final surface preparation project runs from first contact through final walkthrough.
Step 1: Assess and Scope
We walk the space, assess existing conditions, and confirm exactly what the final surface preparation work needs to achieve.
Step 2: Written Estimate
A clear written scope covering inclusions, exclusions, materials, finish level, and a realistic schedule.
Step 3: Protect and Contain
Floors, furnishings, and adjacent areas protected, with containment installed before any dust producing work.
Step 4: Execute
The final surface preparation work carried out with quality checked at each stage rather than only at the end.
Step 5: Clean and Walk Through
Full cleanup and debris removal, then a walkthrough with you before we consider the work complete.
