Drywall Calculators and Estimators

Four free drywall planning tools: a material and sheet estimator, a realistic project timeline estimator that accounts for compound drying, a finish level selector that tells you whether you need Level 5, and a repair versus replace decision tool.

Calculators

Work out roughly what you are dealing with

These encode the same reasoning we use during an estimate. They will not replace a site visit, but they will tell you whether you are in the right ballpark before you call anyone.

Includes a 10 percent waste allowance. Material quantities are rules of thumb; a site measure will differ.

These are planning tools, not quotes. Actual scope and pricing require an on site assessment, because wall thickness, existing texture, plane condition, access, and the true extent of any damage cannot be assessed remotely.

About these calculators

How accurate are these calculators?
They are order of magnitude planning tools. The material estimator is reasonably reliable because area maths is straightforward. The timeline estimator reflects real drying constraints. The finish level and repair decision tools encode the same reasoning we use on site. None of them replace an on site assessment, because wall thickness, plane condition, and the true extent of damage cannot be assessed remotely.
Why do the calculators not give a price?
Because a drywall price calculator would be misleading. The same square footage can differ by a factor of three depending on finish level, texture matching, access, and how many visits the work needs. A number that does not survive contact with your actual project is worse than no number.
Why does the material estimator add 10 percent?
Waste allowance. Sheets get cut around openings, corners, and obstructions, and the offcuts are rarely reusable. Ten percent is the standard industry allowance and it is conservative on a simple rectangular room, tighter on a complex one.
The timeline seems long for the amount of work.
That is drying time rather than labour, and it is the single most common surprise on a drywall project. Each compound coat has to dry fully before the next, usually overnight and longer in humid conditions. A contractor promising three coats in one day is either using fast setting compound throughout or building shrinkage into your walls.
