# Primer Ready Surfaces

A primer ready surface is uniform in texture and porosity, free of dust and contamination, and finished to its specified level. Primer applied to such a surface bonds properly and absorbs evenly, which is what allows the finish coats to look consistent.

Primer does two jobs on new drywall: it seals the differing porosity of compound and board paper so the finish coat absorbs evenly, and it provides a bonding layer for the paint. Both jobs depend on what it is applied to.

On a dusty surface, primer bonds to dust. On a Level 4 surface receiving a high sheen paint, primer reduces but does not eliminate the banding. Understanding what primer can and cannot fix is what stops people expecting it to rescue a finish that was never right.

## Why this matters

- Uniform porosity so primer absorbs evenly
- Genuinely dust free so primer bonds to the wall
- Finish level appropriate to the intended paint sheen
- Clear communication with your painter about the condition delivered

## Our Process

1. **Assess and Scope**: We walk the space, assess existing conditions, and confirm exactly what the primer ready preparation work needs to achieve.
2. **Written Estimate**: A clear written scope covering inclusions, exclusions, materials, finish level, and a realistic schedule.
3. **Protect and Contain**: Floors, furnishings, and adjacent areas protected, with containment installed before any dust producing work.
4. **Execute**: The primer ready preparation work carried out with quality checked at each stage rather than only at the end.
5. **Clean and Walk Through**: Full cleanup and debris removal, then a walkthrough with you before we consider the work complete.

## What's Included

- Finish level confirmation
- Surface uniformity check
- Complete dust removal
- Contamination check at any repaired or previously painted areas
- Raking light verification

## Frequently Asked Questions

### Will primer hide a poor drywall finish?

No. Primer evens out absorption differences, which helps, but it is a thin coating and it will not fill ridges, level dips, or hide fuzzy oversanded paper. In fact priming usually makes those defects more visible, because it unifies the colour and removes the visual distraction that bare compound and paper provide. Primer reveals problems more often than it hides them.
