# Blown-In Insulation Installation

Blown in insulation uses loose fill fiberglass or cellulose blown into attics or into closed wall cavities through access holes. It fills irregular spaces more completely than batts and allows existing walls to be insulated without full removal of the drywall.

Blown in insulation solves two problems batts cannot. In an attic, it flows around framing, wiring, and the irregular geometry at the eaves, filling spaces a batt would bridge over. And in an existing wall, it can be installed through small access holes without removing the drywall.

That second application is the one homeowners ask about most. We drill access holes, blow the cavity to density, then patch and texture match the holes so they disappear. It is far less disruptive than opening a wall, with the caveat that you cannot visually verify coverage the way you can in an open cavity.

## Why this matters

- Fills irregular spaces batts would bridge over
- Insulates existing walls without removing the drywall
- Consistent depth across attic areas
- Access holes patched and texture matched by the same crew

## Our Process

1. **Assess the Assembly**: We look at cavity depth, framing spacing, the space above or behind, and what the assembly needs to achieve thermally or acoustically.
2. **Written Scope**: Estimate stating insulation type, R value or acoustic target, coverage area, and how it coordinates with the drywall schedule.
3. **Protect and Prepare**: Area protected and any existing material removed. Insulation work generates airborne fibre, so containment matters.
4. **Install to Full Contact**: Material installed to fill the cavity completely without compression or gaps, because both destroy performance.
5. **Inspect Before Close In**: We inspect coverage before board goes up, because once the wall is closed nobody will ever see it again.

## What's Included

- Cavity or attic assessment
- Access hole drilling where walls are closed
- Air sealing at accessible penetrations
- Blown installation to specified density or depth
- Depth markers in attics for verification
- Access hole patching and texture matching
- Cleanup

## Frequently Asked Questions

### Can you insulate my existing walls without tearing them out?

Yes. We drill access holes, blow the cavities to the correct density, then patch and texture match the holes. Because we are a drywall contractor, the patching and matching is done properly by the same crew rather than left as somebody else s problem.

### Fiberglass or cellulose for blown in?

Cellulose is denser and generally better for sound, and it is made largely from recycled material. Fiberglass does not settle as much over time and does not absorb moisture. For attics in Orange County s climate either works well. We will recommend based on your specific assembly rather than a blanket preference.
