# Insulation Installation in Irvine and Orange County

Insulation installation places thermal or acoustic material inside wall, ceiling, and floor cavities before drywall closes them in. Performance depends almost entirely on installation quality: gaps, compression, and voids reduce real world effectiveness far more than most people expect.

Insulation is the one part of a wall assembly that gets judged entirely on paperwork rather than on results. Everyone asks about the R value on the label. Almost nobody asks about installation quality, and installation quality is what actually determines performance.

The reason is simple physics. Heat and sound both find the path of least resistance. A cavity that is ninety five percent filled does not deliver ninety five percent of the rated performance, because the remaining five percent becomes a bypass that carries a disproportionate share of the transfer. Compressed batts are worse still, because compressing insulation reduces its R value directly.

We install insulation because we install drywall. Having the same crew do both means the insulation gets inspected before the board goes up, and it means the two systems are coordinated rather than handed off with problems buried inside the wall.

Acoustic work is where this matters most. A soundproofing assembly is only as good as its weakest element, and a small gap around an electrical box or at the top plate will undo the entire investment.

## Insulation Installation services

- **[Batt Insulation](https://hanenburg-drywall.vercel.app/services/insulation-installation/batt-insulation)**: Pre cut batts fitted to full contact and inspected before board goes up.
- **[Blown-In Insulation](https://hanenburg-drywall.vercel.app/services/insulation-installation/blown-in-insulation)**: Loose fill for attics and closed cavities, without opening the whole wall.
- **[Acoustic Insulation](https://hanenburg-drywall.vercel.app/services/insulation-installation/acoustic-insulation)**: Sound batts plus the sealing that makes the whole assembly actually work.
- **[Thermal Insulation](https://hanenburg-drywall.vercel.app/services/insulation-installation/thermal-insulation)**: Correct R values with full contact and air sealing, for real performance.
- **[Insulation with Drywall Systems](https://hanenburg-drywall.vercel.app/services/insulation-installation/insulation-with-drywall-systems)**: One crew, one schedule, and the assembly verified before it is closed in.

## Why this matters

- Installed to full cavity contact with no gaps or compression
- Inspected before drywall closes the assembly
- Coordinated with the drywall schedule, no handoff gaps
- Acoustic and thermal treated as different problems with different answers
- Fire blocking and air sealing addressed at the same time

## Our Process

1. **Assess the Assembly**: We look at cavity depth, framing spacing, the space above or behind, and what the assembly needs to achieve thermally or acoustically.
2. **Written Scope**: Estimate stating insulation type, R value or acoustic target, coverage area, and how it coordinates with the drywall schedule.
3. **Protect and Prepare**: Area protected and any existing material removed. Insulation work generates airborne fibre, so containment matters.
4. **Install to Full Contact**: Material installed to fill the cavity completely without compression or gaps, because both destroy performance.
5. **Inspect Before Close In**: We inspect coverage before board goes up, because once the wall is closed nobody will ever see it again.

## What's Included

- Cavity assessment and material selection
- Existing insulation removal where required
- Air sealing at penetrations before insulating
- Batt or blown in installation to full contact
- Cutting around boxes, wiring, and plumbing rather than compressing over them
- Vapor retarder installation where the assembly calls for it
- Pre close in coverage inspection
- Debris removal and cleanup

## Materials and systems

- Fiberglass batts in standard and high density
- Mineral wool batts for acoustic and fire performance
- Blown in fiberglass and cellulose for attics and closed cavities
- Acoustic sound batts for interior partitions
- Acoustic sealant for perimeter and penetration sealing

## Frequently Asked Questions

### Why does insulation installation quality matter more than R value?

Because heat and sound both take the path of least resistance. A cavity with small gaps around the edges or compressed material behind wiring performs dramatically worse than its rating suggests, since those bypasses carry a disproportionate share of the transfer. Correctly installed lower rated insulation routinely outperforms poorly installed higher rated insulation.

### Do I need insulation in interior walls?

Not for thermal reasons, but often for sound. Interior partitions between bedrooms, around home offices, on either side of shared walls, and around mechanical rooms all benefit substantially. It is inexpensive when the wall is open and expensive once it is closed, so it is worth deciding before board goes up.

### Can you insulate an existing wall without removing the drywall?

Yes, using blown in insulation through access holes, which are then patched and texture matched. It is more limited than insulating an open cavity because you cannot see or verify coverage the same way, but it is far less disruptive than opening the wall.

### Do you do spray foam?

We install batt and blown in insulation. Spray foam requires specialised equipment and licensing that is a separate trade, and we will refer you rather than pretend otherwise. For most drywall coordinated applications, correctly installed batts or blown in material perform very well.
