# Vaulted Ceiling Drywall Installation

Vaulted ceiling drywall covers angled and cathedral ceilings that rise to a ridge. The work requires staging, careful sheet handling at height, and precise finishing at the ridge and where the vault meets the walls, because those lines are the first thing the eye follows.

Vaulted ceilings are usually the architectural feature of the room, which means every line in them is on display. The ridge, the angle changes, and the intersection with the walls are all lines your eye follows automatically the moment you walk in.

The practical challenge is access and handling. Sheets have to be moved and held at height and at an angle, which takes staging and enough hands. The finishing challenge is that vaulted ceilings usually come with big windows, and big windows produce exactly the raking light that reveals any imperfection.

We plan sheet layout to keep joints off the ridge line where possible, feather joints wide, and inspect the finished plane from every angle the room will actually be viewed from.

## Why this matters

- Sheet layout planned around the ridge and angle changes
- Proper staging so sheets are set accurately at height
- Wide feathering to survive raking light from tall glazing
- Clean, straight ridge and wall intersection lines

## Our Process

1. **Access Assessment**: We evaluate height, angle, and access to plan staging and crew size.
2. **Scope and Schedule**: Written scope reflecting the added labor that height and angle genuinely require.
3. **Stage and Protect**: Staging set, floors and finishes protected below the entire work area.
4. **Hang the Planes**: Board set on each plane with layout that keeps joints away from feature lines.
5. **Finish and Verify**: Joints feathered wide, ridge lines detailed, then verified from multiple viewing angles.

## What's Included

- Staging and access setup
- Framing and plane check at height
- Board installation on angled planes
- Ridge and intersection detailing
- Joint treatment and wide feathering
- Sanding and finish to specification
- Multi angle raking light inspection

## Frequently Asked Questions

### Does a vaulted ceiling cost more than a flat one?

Yes, and legitimately so. Staging, sheet handling at height and angle, and the wider feathering that tall glazing demands all add real labor. Any quote that prices a vault the same as a flat ceiling of equal area has not accounted for the work.

### Do vaulted ceilings crack more?

They can, because the framing spans are longer and seasonal movement is greater. Proper joint reinforcement and, where appropriate, control joints are what prevent it. This is a detail worth getting right during installation rather than repairing later.
