# New Construction Drywall

New construction drywall covers the full drywall scope on a building that has never been finished: hanging board over new framing, treating every joint, and finishing to the specified level. Because there is no existing surface to match, the work is judged entirely on plane, joint quality, and finish consistency.

New construction is the cleanest version of this trade and also the least forgiving. There is no old texture to blend into and no existing surface to hide behind. Every wall is judged on its own, which means the plane, the joints, and the finish consistency are all fully exposed.

We start before board arrives. Framing gets checked for plane, crowned studs get addressed, and blocking gets confirmed for everything that will hang on the wall later. Fixing a bowed wall costs minutes at framing stage and hours at finishing stage.

From there it is volume work done carefully: consistent sheet layout, correct fastening, thin coats with real dry time, and a final inspection under raking light before the painter shows up.

## Why this matters

- Framing and plane verified before board goes up
- Blocking confirmed for cabinets, fixtures, and future mounts
- Consistent finish across every room, not just the show areas
- Schedule coordination with framing, rough in, and paint
- Raking light inspection before handoff to paint

## Our Process

1. **Plan Review and Takeoff**: We review plans, take off quantities, and confirm finish levels and textures by room.
2. **Pre Board Inspection**: Framing plane, stud crowns, and blocking are checked and corrected before any board is hung.
3. **Stock and Hang**: Material is stocked by room and board is hung with layout planned to minimize butt joints.
4. **Finish and Texture**: Joints treated in thin coats with proper dry time, then sanded and textured to specification.
5. **Inspect and Release**: Raking light inspection, punch corrections, cleanup, and release to the painting contractor.

## Frequently Asked Questions

### When should drywall be scheduled in a new build?

After framing, rough in, and insulation are complete and inspected, and after the building is dried in. Hanging board before rough in inspection passes means opening walls back up, which costs far more than waiting.

### Do you work with general contractors and builders?

Regularly. We work to drawings and schedules, coordinate with the trades around us, and provide the documentation and punch list completion builders need at closeout.

### What finish level is standard for new homes?

Level 4 with texture is the norm for most production and custom homes. Level 5 is specified in areas with large glazing, critical lighting, or smooth wall design. We confirm this per room during the takeoff rather than assuming.
