# Drywall Installation in Irvine and Orange County

Drywall installation is the process of hanging gypsum board on framed walls and ceilings, fastening it correctly, then taping, mudding, and finishing the surface so it is ready for primer and paint. Hanenburg Drywall installs residential and commercial drywall across Irvine and Orange County.

Drywall installation looks simple from the outside. Board goes up, joints get covered, the wall gets painted. What separates work that lasts from work that cracks within a year happens in the details nobody sees once the paint is on.

We plan sheet layout to minimize joints, especially butt joints, because every joint is a place a wall can telegraph later. We check framing before a single sheet goes up, because no amount of finishing skill will hide a bowed stud or a plane that is out by a quarter inch. We fasten to spec, in the correct pattern, at the correct depth, so fasteners hold without breaking the paper face.

From there the finish work decides how the wall reads under real light. Tape is bedded properly, coats are built in thin passes and allowed to dry, and the surface is sanded to the finish level your project actually calls for. On a textured wall that is usually a Level 4. On a smooth wall in critical lighting it needs to be a Level 5, and we will tell you when that is the case rather than letting you discover it after the painter primes.

## Why this matters

- Sheet layout planned to reduce butt joints and visible seams
- Framing checked and corrected before board goes up
- Correct fastener type, pattern, and depth so nothing pops later
- Finish level matched to your lighting and paint sheen
- Containment and daily cleanup on every occupied jobsite
- Written scope so you know exactly what is and is not included

## Our Process

1. **Scope and Measure**: We walk the space, measure the area, check framing condition, and confirm the finish level and texture the project needs.
2. **Written Estimate**: You receive a written scope listing exactly what is included, what is excluded, the finish level, and a realistic schedule.
3. **Protection and Prep**: Floors, fixtures, and adjacent finished areas are protected. Containment goes up before any dust producing work begins.
4. **Hang and Finish**: Board is hung and fastened to spec, then taped and coated in thin passes with full dry time between coats.
5. **Inspect and Walk Through**: We inspect under raking light, correct anything that shows, clean the site, and walk the finished work with you.

## Frequently Asked Questions

### How long does drywall installation take?

A single room is typically three to five working days. Most of that is drying time between compound coats rather than active labor. A whole house is usually one to three weeks depending on square footage, ceiling heights, and finish level. Rushing dry time is the single most common cause of cracks and callbacks, so we schedule around it rather than through it.

### Do you install drywall on ceilings as well as walls?

Yes. Ceilings are standard on every installation project. We use 5/8 inch board on ceilings to resist sagging, and we handle vaulted, high, tray, and coffered ceilings as well as flat ones.

### What finish level do I need?

Level 4 is the standard for most walls that will receive texture or a flat to eggshell paint. Level 5, which adds a full skim coat over the entire surface, is what you need for smooth walls, critical lighting, or any sheen above eggshell. We confirm this during the scope so there are no surprises when the painter arrives.

### Do you handle the framing too?

Yes. We do metal and wood stud framing, partition walls, soffits, bulkheads, and blocking. Having the same crew frame and hang means the plane is right before board goes up, which is where most finish problems actually start.

### Will you clean up afterward?

Cleanup is part of the scope, not an extra. We protect the space before we start, clean at the end of every day, and remove all debris and material before the final walkthrough.
