# How to Prepare for Drywall Work

> **TLDR**: Clear the space, remove **fragile items yourself**, plan for dust, and tell us about anything you will ever mount on the wall so **blocking** goes in before board.

Preparing for drywall work means clearing the work area, removing fragile items, planning for dust, confirming which mounts need blocking, and agreeing access and parking. Good preparation shortens the schedule and reduces the risk of damage.

## What should you do before we arrive?

A short list, and doing it saves crew time that you would otherwise be paying for.

- Remove artwork, mirrors, and anything hanging on the affected walls
- Take fragile and irreplaceable items out of the room entirely
- Clear a path from the entry to the work area for material handling
- Move small furniture out; we will protect or relocate larger pieces
- Take down window treatments in the work area
- Confirm where we can park and unload
- Secure pets somewhere away from the work area and any open doors

## What should you tell us before we start?

A few pieces of information genuinely change how we do the work, and they are much cheaper to act on before board goes up.

- Anything you will ever mount on these walls, so blocking goes in first
- Any known plumbing or electrical runs in the walls we are opening
- Whether anyone in the household has respiratory sensitivity
- Any days you specifically need the space quiet or usable
- Whether you plan to insulate or rewire while walls are open

## What should you expect during the work?

Containment goes up before any dust producing work begins, and it stays up until the dusty stages are finished. HVAC vents and returns in the work area get sealed.

There will be days of activity and days of waiting while compound dries. That is normal and it is not the crew being slow. We will tell you which days are which.

Cleanup happens at the end of every day, not just at the end of the job.

## Frequently Asked Questions

### Do I need to move out?

In most cases no. With containment, dust controlled sanding, and daily cleanup, the disruption stays confined to the work area. For whole house projects or extensive ceiling work there are typically one or two days you would rather be elsewhere, and we will tell you which in advance so you can plan.

### What about my pets?

Keep them well away from the work area. Beyond the dust, doors get propped open for material handling, and that is how pets get out. Let us know if you have pets so we are careful about access.
